NLBMDA Launches New Program to Drive Dealer Participation at Annual Legislative-Fly In
November 2, 2025 – WASHINGTON D.C. The National Lumber and Building Material Dealers Association (NLBMDA) is excited to announce the launch of Dealers to D.C., a new grant program designed to strengthen advocacy efforts by expanding dealer participation in NLBMDA’s annual Spring Meeting and Legislative Conference.
While many factors can influence participation in a legislative fly-in, Dealers to D.C. is intended to eliminate financial barriers that may prevent dealers from attending. The program provides support for LBM dealers, especially those who have not recently participated or who represent states that are typically underrepresented. Expanding dealer involvement ensures a wider range of perspectives is shared on Capitol Hill.
Approved by the NLBMDA Board of Directors, Dealers to D.C. offers financial assistance to bring dealers to Washington, particularly those who have not attended within the past three years or who face financial constraints. This effort ensures a broader and more impactful advocacy presence.
For 2026, Dealers to D.C. will award ten $750 advocacy grants to help cover eligible expenses including conference registration, hotel accommodations within the NLBMDA room block, and travel. Preference will be given to members who have not attended recently or who would otherwise be unable to participate.
Matthew Delaney, Government Affairs Coordinator at NLBMDA:
“As a Washington based trade association, we’re fortunate that lawmakers, the administration, and key stakeholders shaping decisions that impact the lumber and building materials industry are right in our backyard. When I meet with lawmakers and staff, they often mention the conversations they’ve had with our members during NLBMDA’s fly-ins. Those interactions leave a lasting impression. While I’m on Capitol Hill each week advancing the industry’s priorities, it’s our dealers’ yearly presence in Washington that truly makes our advocacy resonate.”
Chris Hegemen, Bliffert Lumber and NLBMDA Board of Directors BLD Connection Representative:
“The NLBMDA Legislative Conference and Hill meetings are some of the most impactful advocacy opportunities we have. Speaking directly with my representatives has been one of the most meaningful experiences of my 20 plus years in LBM. I encourage every member to take part in this important event. When we show up together, our collective voice is stronger.”
Applications for the Dealers to D.C. program open today, with a priority deadline of December 19 and final submissions due January 5. Award recipients will be announced in January ahead of the Spring Meeting and Legislative Conference, held March 17 to 18, 2026 in Washington, D.C.
First Time Attending a Legislative Fly-In?
First-time attendees often face the challenge of stepping away from their business and navigating an unfamiliar environment. NLBMDA provides comprehensive advocacy training, including a legislative issues briefing and best practices for conducting effective meetings on Capitol Hill.
NLBMDA staff will be available before and during the conference to offer support and ensure every dealer can confidently engage in meaningful advocacy.
